A steel bike has its day at the Tour De France.

I really enjoyed seeing one of the pro riders on a steel bike for the last stage of this years Tour De France, albeit a marketing move for the launch of Eddy Merckx Cycles new high end steel MyCorsa range.
Eddy Merckx Cycles says that its steel frames are almost as light and stiff as a carbon frame, but offer more comfort.

The truth is there are advantages to a super stiff and light carbon bike at pro racing level.
However, the comfort and durability that steel bikes offer, make far more sense for people who are not super tough elite athletes, and who have to pay for and ride the same bike for more than one season.
